In a recent conversation, Hoffman dropped some serious wisdom about the future of AI, work, and why humans still matter in a world filled with machine-generated everything.
The big question: Will AI replace humans? Well, technically, yes. But also… no. AI tools are evolving at breakneck speed, and soon, they’ll be everywhere—from automating video editing to writing first drafts of essays. But here’s the kicker: AI is not great on its own. It’s great when paired with human creativity. As Hoffman put it, “I bet you the AI doing your short editing is not as good as the AI plus a human doing it.”
So, how do you stay ahead? Simple: Learn to work with AI, not against it. If you’re not experimenting with these tools now, you risk being left behind. Engineers are already using AI-powered copilots, and pretty soon, so will everyone else—including those of us who don’t code but still need to create, communicate, and get things done faster.
And what about our kids? Should they still learn to code? Hoffman says yes, but not because they’ll need to write complex programs. Instead, understanding how AI thinks will be the new literacy—like knowing how to use a calculator, but for everything. The future belongs to those who can creatively guide AI, not just consume what it spits out.
